consumed (2025)

 consumed is a developing collection of illustrative images riddled with the Eckert's visual language: lively characters, text, and repeating linear patterns.

These works externalize the artist's anxieties, curiosities, and frustrations towards the modern American existence, examining themes including - but not limited to - communication, consumerism, capitalism, consciousness, and societal constructs. Symbology embedded within these visuals attests to how the artist sees, synthesizes, & digests the world around her (or, alternatively, how it consumes her, as she navigates issues of class, economic turmoil, womanhood, violence, technology, privacy, health, romance, and more). consumed, then, attests to Eckert's identity, experiences, and struggles within the social landscape she occupies.

This body of work explores the dynamic intersection of illustration, emotion, and spontaneous image creation; each piece was built from the artist's ability to immediately, fluidly, and quickly render visuals - environments, characters, text, and patterns - without excessive planning). For this reason, each piece of consumed can be described as an "image of instinct" (i.e., a picture that sprang forth quickly, from the artist's consciousness, to her hand, pen, then preferred surface). Investigations of each work - painting or drawn on board alike - offers unique, blunt insight into her conceptual concerns (revealing connections between her emotions, psyche, mental hyperfixations, and creative expression).
